Snowflake Applique

I must have a short attention span because I have to constantly switch up my projects and take on more and more and more.

My WIPs (work in progress) are getting a bit out of hand. Does anyone else have this problem? This was my latest WIP however I have motored along and got this one completed.

I love looking at Pinterest and getting new ideas and I came along a picture of a very simple snowflake design. These days I am determined to only use my stash! So I dug through my messy fabric stash drawer seeing if I had any fabric that would work for the "Snowflake".

Fast forward through all the digging and it turns out I was in luck. I had all the right fabric colours, turns out most of the fabric I picked was from Fridays Off. Now all I needed was some guidance from my all knowing "Mom". I have never attempted applique before and you know "Mom knows best".

I was drawn to this pattern for its simple yet impactful design.

Plus I have been wanting to use my new orange peel template.  

  

After a long sew day at Moms 

(me sewing & mom teaching - she is still recovering from her 2nd hand surgery)

I had the top completed in no time. I have no idea why I never attempted applique before.

My amazing Husband was gracious enough to hold up the quilt top for me =D

Next was the basting. My mom read about a new technique called board basting and she thought I would be the perfect student to test it out.

It worked perfect and I easily basted the entire quilt MYSELF - yay! Usually it helps with a second set of hands for basting but seeing that my Mom is out of commission I was out of luck.

I was flying solo, and it worked out fine.

 Usually I have my quilts professionally machine quilted but it was decided that I should do this one from start to finish. I am a BIG NEWBIE when it comes to machine quilting and was laughing uncontrollably and at the same time thinking "What have I done" HAHA 

HOWEVER in the end I think the quilting actually looks really great.

Why oh Why must I second guess myself.

This quilts new home will be for an adorable baby boy who was born in January. A blue snowflake quilt for a beautiful winter baby.

Rising Star Quilt

I love my job and the company I work for, I am so lucky to have met so many great people and life long friends through work. One of those friends announced they were expecting a baby. I love anything "baby" and was over the moon when hearing this news.

... and so the quilting began. I have about a gazillion quilts I want to do and have them stowed away for the right time. I am sure every quilter can relate to the "wish list" of quilts they want to create.

I had a jelly roll and did not know what to do with it (very normal for me, I tend to purchase any jelly roll that spikes my interest... no matter if I have a project or not.) When I stumbled upon the tutorial from Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company I knew this lost jelly roll would now find a home.

I think my motto should be KISS "Keep it Simple Silly". The reason being: keeping it simple is the main criteria I use when selecting a quilt project. This quilt definitely upheld the KISS motto, seriously check out the tutorial to see for yourself how simple it was. Rising Star - Tutorial

*Drum Roll* Here is the final product and the introduction of the CUTEST baby ever !!!

I have to say that the name for this quilt is very fitting as Ashton is a rising star.

Dog Gone Cute - Topper

I believe I started this back in November 2015. I stumbled upon the Dog Gone Cute blog hop from Sew Fresh Quilts and it was too cute to pass up.

 

I have never done a blog hop and this actually was the 1st I have even heard of such a thing. It was too much commitment then what I was ready for so I decided to purchase the pattern and slowly pluck away at it in my own time.

This was the first time I really stepped out of my comfort zone and tackled something so intricate ... well intricate for me. I have read all your blogs don't worry I have seen what intricate really is (there are some amazingly talented quilters our there)

The above picture was all it took to get me hooked. It draws you in with all its cuteness.

I love Lorna's Sew Fresh Quilts blog her creativity is inspiring. When I tell people I am a quilter a majority of the people assume I make boring "grandma" quilts. As I am just learning most of my quilts thus far have been quite simple however I would never say they are boring.

You can create amazing things out of fabric. After tackling the Dog Gone Cute quilt I am revitalized and willing to take on more daring and shall I say "slightly" more challenging projects. With some coaching & moral support from my Mother of course. 

I have decided that since I have put so much work into this quilt I will be keeping it for myself. There are so many options for backing I will be taking my time selecting the perfect one, possibly a cute modern print. Enough with my rambling check out my Dong Gone Cute topper.

Special little quilt for a special little man!

Well the project that I have been secretly working on has arrived to it's final destination! I would say that by that cheeky little grin, this little man is happy with his new quilt!

You may remember a couple of years ago this quilt:

  

Well Little Ellis is now a BIG sister to Pierce! What a great pair these two are! She's helping him unpack his surprise! They grow so fast!

I couldn't leave Ellis out, so I sent along a book for her:

This is a great little book to send along for those older siblings. They also have a companion book to this one as well as another book for you quilter's out there wanting to get into quilting!

You can check out the website for The Quilt Makers Gift for more books that you can order! I just love these story books for kids and the quilting books are terrific! Good start for anyone interested in taking the quilting plunge!

I have a feeling these two will be playing together for a long time! That is until he starts getting into her stuff! Thanks to Mom and Dad of these two adorable little one's for forwarding photo's and letting me post them on my blog! They have been incredibly busy with renovating their new home that they just moved into! I so appreciate the photos! 

The best gift for a quilter is being able to see those quilts dragged around and used! Pre-hugged them for sure as they live far away from us! Now both of them have their quilts
